Iraqi's Execute 13 after reinstating the death penalty in 2004. And this is what we call encouraging democracy? Ironically enough, another article claims that violence is hampering the fight for "rights" in Iraq. Doesn't this seem a little odd to you? If we are promoting democracy, should we really be encouraging state-sponsored violence? Shouldn't Iraq be adopting an appeals process that ensures against mere political opponents being put together under the guise of "terrorists"? Oh that's right, in his quest for "terrorists", Dubya has put a hold on democracy and U.S. citizen's rights while his war wages on. Way to go George W. Bush!!!

Dubya delivered last night. You think I stayed up and watched? Yeah right! The baby was asleep. I set my DVR and printed out the transcripts today. Funny how transcripts differ depending on the source. I never know which news source to trust, or more appropriately, have more confidence in then say, FOX or MSNBC...Not to mention the White House has it's own media machine that spins everything from breaking the law to uhhh, well, breaking the law... I will analyze and bring my thoughts back later in the day...

So they arrested Cindy Sheehan, huh? Funny how they turn on their own so quickly, I mean, after all, Cindy Sheehan voted for Bush, not to mention she is a white woman! I am getting lazy in this blogging blog world and wanting to read others posts to inspire me to action.. Like my sista in the cause, ABB (You can read her here http://angryblackbitch.blogspot.com). I would like to go off on a tirade about how un-American it was to arrest her, but then I would be sounding like Dubya.. I would also like to go off about how elitist it is to have her, not only removed, but arrested, still my head hurts just thinking about it.. More later...

Kidnapped reporter Jill Carroll is still alive- according to a new video of her released yesterday to Al-Jazeera. That is good news. Sometimes I wonder if the position Bush and Blair have taken towards these kidnappings aren't politically motivated. I mean, after all, allowing "insurgents" to chop of the head, particularly the head of a woman, would help to further emphasize what Bush has been trying to convince you of all along- that "insurgents", "terrorists" or whatever we are calling people who oppose Dubya's foreign policy measures, are not human, but rather barbarians invading our otherwise "civil" society..

Civilians are being made pawns in the game of war and I am not just referring to the "insurgency" or "terrorist" kidnappings. The United States is kidnapping Iraqi women who are guilty of nothing but marriage to a possible, and I repeat, possible Iraqi insurgent. Maybe "suspected" is a better word than "possible", I don't know to be honest. See the problem with this debate, and many other debates we have here domestically in the U.S. is the terminology we employ and utilize. I mean with phrases like "terrorist" and "axis of evil", the debate doesn't have a chance to get started because we have already these value-laden terms conjuring up images that distort reality.

Ughhhh! I am going back to read Angry Black Bitch's words of wisdom for today! This is precisely why my blog has yet to take off- every time I try to get my own opinions down, I get frustrated, pissed off and my attention goes in five million other directions! Impeach his Lousy, Good-for-little-more-than-starting-another-Vietnam-esq-war Butt!

I came across this article on one of my favorite blogs- the http://impeachbushcoalition.blogspot.com and I must say, I am happy to learn that impeachment is not such a "radical" thought for Americans now. I mean, after all, wasn't it just a mere eight years ago that a certain American president was impeached for lying about an affair? I really have a hard time grasping the inconsistencies because nearly the same elected body impeached eight years ago for less substantial reasons than this current administration has given. Yet, here we are, aside from a little grumbling, unable to garner democratic support for something that should be a no-brainer. Now, I didn't think the last president should have been impeached. The power of impeachment should really only be used in the most extreme cases of fraud and abuse of power. Otherwise, we will be impeaching every president from now till- well you know the drill. Now if George Bush, Jr. doesn't fit the bill for impeachment, with his lies about Iraq and WMD, his lies about links between Al Qaida and Iraq (not to mention Iraq and 9/11), his domestic spying program, the CIA leak under his reign, and about a dozen other things that are slipping this overworked and underpaid mother's mind at the moment. You know what I think? I think that democrats (some or most) and republicans have (since our last impeachment hoorah) a tacit agreement to leave impeachment alone. Either that or some democrats are just so deathly scared of a McCarthyism-type of impeachment situation, after seeing their fearless leader nearly destroyed over lies about sex. I'll have to really think about this some more. As I think about it, why don't you do the same.. The article link follows..

Insurgents are not Terrorists

This New York Times article is the first article I have seen that illustrates there is a difference between the Iraqi "insurgency" and Al Qaida. All too frequently we have seen the American media refer to the insurgents as "terrorists". Clearly, this is a small step towards recognizing that fighting against foreign invaders is not necessarily terrorism.

George Bush and His Inconsistent Policies on Democracy

Eighteen more U.S. soldiers died today in Iraq. I often wonder if anyone I knew is over there or among the deceased. I used to live in Washington, D.C. my freshman year in college and many of my friends, as well as myself, had acquaintances enlisted. As a mother and a human- I pray that they all come home safe- but as a realistic law student (an avid history buff), I know that this will not be possible.

I was opposed to the war from the start, however, after much consideration, I no longer can say a total pull out is the best option for all involved. My concern with a total pull out is similar to those concerns already raised- that a premature pull out will leave Iraq worse off than it was before the war began. That the insurgency will continue and we will have left the Iraqi people in a state of limbo- either worse or the same as the country was under Saddam Hussein. I am not sure that it would be responsible to completely pull out at this point. However, I know that the course we are currently undertaking is much too similar to Vietnam. Furthermore, George Bush's foreign policy is irresponsible and reactive.

So let me go on to address an issue I am sure about- our original purpose for the war and the attainableness of the goal(s) that the war was supposed to usher in. For purposes of clarification, isn't this war called "Operation Iraqi Freedom"? At least, it was initially. But how free are the Iraqis? Being under the law of another country, subjected to an occupation by foreign invaders, the Iraqi people are now under the exclusive control of the United States.

Does George Bush really want to promote worldwide democracy or just a U.S. political agenda that does not necessarily embody democratic principles? We need only look at Haiti for the answer to that- and it seems to be the later of the two.
